Hwang Sooyoung is working at People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD) as a manager of the Centers for Peace and Disarmament and for International Solidarity, and is also secretary-general of the Korea Peace Appeal Campaign. She has worked on peace, disarmament, international conflict and Asian human rights issues from 2012, and joined PSPD in 2014. PSPD is a watchdog NGO, which monitors government policies on national defense & diplomacy, advocates for peace, disarmament and a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, and builds solidarity to advocate for various democracy and human rights issues in Asia. She has participated in campaigns to stop the construction of the Jeju naval base, against THAAD deployment of U.S. troops in Korea, against the arms trade, on World Armament Day, and the fact-finding campaign for the Ferry Sewol disaster. PSPD is also a member of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) Northeast Asia.
